The Dacha
In Russia a dacha (да́ча in russky) was a retreat home, to get away from urban areas and connect to nature.

We have grand plans to make our homestead a wonderful source of organic produce, and to grow healthy food on our land. Expect to see a flurry of activity this spring, as the ground begins to warm.

So far, we have planted a small patch of beans (since chomped by bunnies) and collard greens, which should survive under the coming snow and ice. In preparation of winter, we have also put around 100 500 cloves of hardneck garlic into the ground (we upgraded!). Protected with a layer of straw mulch, they will hibernate through the cold, emerging next spring as both a tasty treat and a safeguard against vampires. Yum! You can see the video here:

Next spring, we hope to plant the foundation of a tree fruit and berry orchard.

Other projects on the table include the production of maple syrup. We've got an overgrown, thick grove of young sugar maples on our property, and with a bit of work and a few years, they should be big enough for tapping.
