One of the Dacha’s goals is to be able to provide a good amount of our own food, as well as being able to feed our friends and visitors. We aim to be organic and sustainable in our methods.
Currently, we have a garden from which we get our kale, peas, broccoli, beets, radishes, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, peppers, green beans and whatever else we feel like trying that season.
In addition, we’ve begun an herb bed with basil, oregano, lemon balm, mint, valerian root, yarrow, jasmine, and chives.
We are also nurturing a small orchard. We planted about 60 trees with the help of donations from our friends and families. We have a variety of plums, peaches, apples, cherries, pears, and maybe paw paws.
Finally, there are the berries – we have raspberries, blueberry plants, black berries, strawberries and currents. Yum! And if we go foraging we can get our fill of autumn olives growing in the back field.
Dacha Farm often brings veggies to the Freeville Farmer’s Market on Sundays from 12-2 during the growing season at 43 Main Street, Freeville.
Summer Veggies:
