One of the Dacha’s goals is to be able to provide a good amount of our own food, as well as being able to feed our friends and visitors. We aim to be organic and sustainable in our methods.
Currently, we have a garden from which we get our kale, peas, broccoli, beets, radishes, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, peppers, green beans and whatever else we feel like trying that season.
In addition, we’ve begun an herb bed with basil, oregano, lemon balm, mint, valerian root, yarrow, jasmine, and chives.
Another thing we are looking forward to is the fruit from our orchard. We planed about 60 trees with the help of donations from our friends and families. Soon we will be feasting on a variety of plums, peaches, apples, cherries, pears, and maybe paw paws.
Finally, there are the berries – we have raspberries, blueberry plants, black berries, strawberries and currents. Yum! And if we go foraging we can get our fill of autumn olives growing in the back field.
